A travel app for company employees, which enables to create a travel request, modify and canceling request on the go, app serves all travel requirements like accommodation, cabs, flights booking and advance requests by app.
I led the user experience design of the project and responsible creating design strategy for iOS and Android app, requirement gathering, building information architecture, creating wireframes, prototypes and visual design, detailed style guide & UI elements to support the development of the app.
Raising travel request option was already available in the company portal in which all employees and previous travel history details were available, the requirement was to reflect the same process of booking as in the portal, but it was having lots of inputs and information needs to filled compulsory as a part raising travel request.
Conducted user testing with internal employees to understand the requirement and goals, did a heuristic evaluation of existing website and created a strategy from the findings and started sketching an idea of task flows and application interface design.
Created project process and design strategies, which lead user to perform actions on the go and providing content what is important and making an application flexible, which allows to add/remove new features without affecting the other content/function.
The main goal of the projects to make the app more user friendly, so they can raise a travel request on the go with minimum time and keep them updated with notifications of updates on request.
The challenge was data, we are restricted to existing data which has lots of information and one need to fill lots of details in order to create a travel request and application need to be in sync with existing website details. And when user has no access to laptop/desktop or one who was busy with an office schedule it was difficult to raise a travel request and approve travel requests, while they have to go through website for details.
Creating a mobile application for iOS and Android, which empowers employee to serve all travel requirements like travel, accommodation advance amount and other travel related requirements on the go in few clicks and keep users updated on the status of the request by notification features. From raising request, tracking status of approval of the request also enabling to change, modify and cancel the request by app on the go.
We categorized the forms into little groups to reduce the lengthy form and keep it consolidated and step by step process and cut down non mandatory field to reduce the number of inputs keep it simple and make raising travel request fast.
Generated ideas of interaction and userflow with sketches which helped to visualize the application and discussed the ideation with internal team members about layout the content and grouping forms into multiple Categories, sketches helped to visualize how it will work and done some iterations of designs to improve usability.
Once Am done with ideation process, I started arranging content and created information architecture of the app, it's a very simple architecture through content laid in such a format so user can easily remember the page he's on and access required content quickly.
To validate the ideation and Information architecture created a detailed series of wireframes, mapping all screens and user flows of application, tested and discussed this wireframes internally with team member & project manager, iterated designs accordingly after review.
I built a series of prototypes using Axure tool, to visualize and check the concepts of designs, prototypes enabled to quickly evaluate the experience and got a view app shaping up, Axure tool came out handy in creating quick and interactive prototypes, which is used to test internally about content, functionality with team members and do necessary alterations.
Using Mahindra comviva brand guidelines, created two different style high fidelity mock-ups which helped to finalize the design by stakeholders, once after finalizing the visual design started working on a style guide and UI components which will be required for the development.
Travel app released for iOS and android platform and it was widely appreciated from all stakeholders, HR head and employees of the company which helped to create a travel request on the go, which is amazingly fast, quick reviews and approvals, tracking travel request status and live notifications and alerts. HR team did an internal promotion to let employees know about the app and utilize the service.
